Parliament lost petition for coup presented in 2000

It has been revealed that the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TGNA) lost the petition presented 12 years ago for the “trial of 12 September coup stagers” within the scope of the ongoing 12 September case.

The petition which was presented to the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ýzmir by 35 lawyer members of Ýzmir Bar Association and Contemporary Lawyers Association (ÇHD) on 15 September 2000, demanded the trial of the term’s National Security Council members Kenan Evren, Tahsin Þahinkaya, Nejat Tümer, Nurettin Ersin as well as martial rule commanders who were accused of opposition to Turkish Criminal Court’s 147th article, torture, murder, freedom restriction, detention and instigation to the crime of violation of dwelling immunity.

The term’s Supreme Court of Appeals Prosecutor, Vural Savaþ, on 27 September 2000 sent the petition to the Speakership of Parliament, demanding “immediate attention to the matter”.

According to official records, the petition was on 3 October sent firstly to the Directorate of Laws and Decisions and then to the Parliamentary Commission in the same day.

The fact that the petition has been lost for twelve years has been exposed during the ongoing 12 September case at Ankara 12th High Criminal Court.

Following the court’s asking the Parliament about the petition, the answer given by the Parliament said that; “The document is confirmed to have been referred to the Parliamentary Commission which however hasn’t found it in the examinations and searches it conducted.”
