Reactions against the governor’s decision to deny permission for Sivas massacre commemoration are increasing.
The Confederation of the Revolutionary Workers’ Trade Unions (DÝSK), Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), Hacý Bektaþ Veli Anatolian Culture Association and families criticized the prohibition and asked government to lift the prohibition.
They also demanded to find and punish those responsible for the massacre.
On July 2, 1993, a group of radical Islamists burned down the Madimak Otel killing 37 intellectuals and festival participants who were trapped in the Hotel. Participants to the Pir Sultan Abdal Alevi Festival were staying at the Madimak.
