Peace and Democracy Party's campaign for multi-language municipality services spread in west Turkey.
BDP's Akdeniz municipality of Mersin published its 2011 calendar in Arabic, Turkish and Kurdish. The agenda of the municipality will be also published in all three languages.
About 300,000 Kurds are currently living in Akdeniz. Akdeniz is also home to some Arabic speaking community.
Mayor of Akdeniz, Fazýl Turk says that Akdeniz is an ethnically mixed town where Turks, Kurds and Arabs live peacefully.
“We will use three languages to protect our multi-cultural population and we started with publishing a calendar in Turkish, Kurdish and Arabic.”
BDP municipalities started to use Turkish and Kurdish officially after Turkish government refused to make necessary amendments to allow usage of languages other than Turkish in state's services.
