Mountains are only way to freedom, guerrilla told his mother

People's Defense Force (HPG) guerrila Osman Güneþ's (Çekdar) lost his life in Kozluk (Batman) on 3 February.

His mother said to DIHA News Agency, "Osman used to say that the mountains were the only way toward the liberation from oppression. Prime Minister Erdoðan will pay the price for this oppression one day."

Four other guerrillas are said to have lost their life together with Osman Güneþ in Kozluk.

He was born in 1984 in Batman. He was jailed for a year for having participated in a demonstration in 2007. He joined the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) four months after his release from prison. His mother tells Osman as an emotional, nature-lover person and a hero who sacrificed himself for the Kurdish people.

"He could not help crying whenever a guerilla fell martyr. He sat and played his baðlama (instrument with strings) crying. One day he said to me, 'Mother, we will fight against this oppression only if we go to the mountains. Sitting here doing nothing is not for us. Please do not be sorry for me. I will be a hero' He loved animals and nature very much. As a child he always went to the mountains to play," tells Nazime Güneþ.

The mourning mother is still hopeful about peace. She says "We sacrificed a lot but peace will come one day. We are proud of our martyrs. Long live leader Apo."
