More bones found in Silopi as excavation stopped in Diyarbakýr

Bones have been found in the garden of the Görümlü Gendarmerie Battalion Command in the Silopi District of Þýrnak.

The excavation was ordered by the Þýrnak Public Prosecutor in connection with the investigation on extrajudicial killings in the 1990s.

After what are thought to be remains of at least 16 people have been found in the garden of JÝTEM (Gendarmerie Intelligence and Anti-Terror Unit) building Diyarbakýr, excavation was called to an halt due to bad weather conditions.

In the wake of this discovery, the number of families of missing people applying to the IHD (Human Rights Association) for assistance in obtaining DNA information from the newly-discovered bodies rose to 26.

Excavation works were launched following the discovery of the bones during restoration work in the former JÝTEM building in Ýçkale. This address is known as the place where enforced disappearances and extra-judicial killings were carried out during the 90s, as well.

Yaþar Family is one of applicator family to find their relative Mehmet Yaþar’s body.

Mehmet Yaþar was disappeared after being taken by soldiers from his home in the Yüksekova District of Hakkari on February 28, 1994.

Disappeared Yaþar’s younger brother gave example for DNA test and asked to match with the findings’ DNA.
