According to Mondafrique, an investigation news site on Maghreb, a senior official in Erdogan's security services traveled to Toubrouk in Libya to meet Akila Salah, the head of the parliament who remains the political front of Marshal Haftar.

According to Mondafrique the secret meetings “take the place of a UN mediation made impossible by the unwillingness of the Russians and the Turks. The former traditionally support the Libyan National Army (ANL) of Marshal Haftar and the latter the Government of National Union (GAN) of Prime Minister Faiez Sarraj.”

Strengthened by their hold on each of the two camps, Russia and Turkey are now determined to constitute a sort of condominium that claims to pose as forced intermediaries in the Libyan crisis.

Suddenly, wrote the media site, “the emissaries of Erdogan and Putin are increasing the discreet trips. The surprise, however, is this: a senior Turkish security service official went to Toubrouk to meet Akila Salah, the head of the parliament who until today was considered a staunch ally of Marshal Haftar.”

Turkey's recent initiative came after the ceasefire agreement in October last year, the outcome of negotiations carried out under UN auspices. An agreement was also reached on holding general elections in December 2021. However, both sides have difficulty agreeing on who will be the managers of the transition process.
