The invading Turkish army continues its aerial and ground bombardment of the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) despite the PKK having ceased fire on March 1.
Despite a ceasefire declared unilaterally by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Turkish army continues to escalate their attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). According to the HPG balance sheet for March, the Turkish army carried out a total of 11,585 air and ground attacks against the guerrilla areas in northern Iraq last month. On April 7, two guerrillas were martyred in the Çirav area in Garê region as a result of two bombardments carried out by an UCAV of the occupying Turkish army. On April 11, two guerrillas were martyred as a result of Turkish attacks with chemical weapons and banned explosives in the Zap region.
The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) announced that the occupying Turkish army continued to target guerrilla areas.
The statement released by the HPG Press Liaison Center on Thursday includes the following:
"Guerrilla positions and areas in the Medya Defense Zones were bombed by the Turkish army 27 times with banned explosives, 7 times with chemical gases, and intensively with heavy weapons. As a result of the continued attacks, our comrades Şiyar Cizîr in Metîna and Baran Çiya were martyred in the Zap region on May 1 and 25, respectively. The Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla have responded within the framework of legitimate self-defense against the Turkish army's ongoing attacks.
Attacks carried out by the Turkish army:
Between May 21 and 27, our tunnels in the Şêlazê Resistance Area in the Metîna region were bombed 16 times with banned explosives, and our tunnels in the Girê Amediye Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were bombed 11 times with banned explosives.
Between May 21 and 26, our tunnels in the Girê Amediye Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were bombed with chemical gases seven times.
Between May 20 and 27, the Turkish army, using bulldozers, attempted to demolish our tunnels in the Girê Amediye Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region 14 times, and our tunnels in the Şêlazê Resistance Area in the Metîna region 6 times.
Between May 20 and 28, the Berê Zînê Resistance Area in the Xakurkê region, the Girê Zengil, Dêreşê, Girgaşê, Spîndarê, Mijê, Girê Reşît, Yekmalê, Zêvkê, Heftebax, Kanî Sarkê, Girê Kun, and Şehîd Dilgeş areas in the Garê region, the Bêşîlî, Dergelê, Şêlazê, and Serê Metîna Resistance Areas in the Metîna region, and the Girê Amediyê and Girê Bahar Resistance Areas in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were heavily bombed with heavy weapons and howitzers.
The Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla responded to the attacks within the framework of the right to legitimate self-defense. The details of our forces' response are as follows:
On May 20 at 06:50, targets in an attack position in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were struck with heavy weapons, and one position was destroyed.
On May 20 at 14:11, bulldozers attacking our tunnels in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were struck and stopped.
On May 21 at 12:40 p.m., targets in an attack position in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were struck, and one armored vehicle was damaged.
On May 21 at 2:05 p.m., a drone loaded with explosives sent to attack our tunnels in the Girê Amediye Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was shot down and destroyed by our YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) forces.
On May 22 at 9:20 p.m., targets in an attack position in the Girê Bahar Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were struck and one container was damaged.
On May 23 at 9:40 p.m., bulldozers attacking our tunnels in the Girê Amediye Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were struck, and one bulldozer was destroyed.
On May 24 at 11:20 a.m., a drone loaded with explosives was shot down and destroyed while attempting to attack our tunnels in the Serê Metîna Resistance Area in the Metîna region.
On May 24 at 1:40 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., targets in an attack position in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Batı Zap region were struck; one A4 heavy weapon position was destroyed and another was damaged.
On May 25 at 2:20 p.m., a tank attacking our tunnels in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was destroyed.
On May 25 at 4:20 PM and 4:45 PM, targets in an attack position on our tunnels in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were responded to with heavy weapons."
