Death keeps hunting Van which has been regularly hit by strong earthquakes in the last three months. Over six hundred people died in the strongest earthquake at the end of October, but people are still dying because of the harsh conditions they are forced to live, or rather survive, in. Another fire proved lethal for children. This time erupted in a tent in Seyrantepe Neighborhood. Similar to earlier tent fires in the earthquake-shattered area, the fire was reportedly caused by a heating stove in the tent of Doru family.
Three-month old Mehmet Doru lost his life while his mother Aslý Doru and four sisters Sabiha (5), Neslihan (4), Umut (4) and Gülcan Doru (3) received serious burns. All six members of the family were taken to Van Regional Training and Research Hospital for treatment.
However, three-month old Mehmet Doru lost his life short before his transfer to Hacettepe University Medical Faculty Hospital in Ankara with an air ambulance.
Other five injured members of the family are still receiving a treatment at the hospital.
Four year-old Ekrem Yaralý died burning in a tent on 3 December in Karpuzalan village where three children, Bahar (8), Ýsmail (4) and Mikail Tolukan (12), died the same way on 18 November.
Following two major earthquakes in October and November which killed at least 672 people and injured over six thousand, Van city and earthquake victims have been abandoned to their fate. More than 400 thousand people have migrated from the city in the recent months.
