Family of Hasan Ocak to launch new criminal complaint

The first investigation into Hasan Ocak's murder has began by Beykoz Public Prosecution, where Hasan’s body was recovered. The family of Ocak says that a sufficient investigation had not been carried out.

"The two applications we made for a separate judgment - said the family in a statement - were rejected giving very aleatory reasons. Some of the people responsible for Hasan’s murder are now standing trial within the scope of the Ergenekon case."

The Ocak family said they are "determined to continue our efforts to achieve justice. This time, - they announced - we will file a criminal complaint to Beykoz Prosecutor's Office in the light of the facts and documents we obtained. We will demand the continuation and expansion of the so far failing investigation, as well as the judgment and punishment of the offenders who are still under arrest in connection with the Ergenekon case."

Hasan Ocak was a political activist.

He had participated in the rebellion in the district of Gazi (Istanbul) in 1995. It was after this uprising, on 21st of March, that Hasan was kidnapped by political police. Five days later, after being severely tortured, he was murdered by being strangled with a wire. He joined the list of people who went missing while in custody. As a result of a mighty struggle that was led by his friends, comrades and family and by the relatives of other people missing in custody, Hasan’s body was recovered on 19th of May 1995.

The family of Hasan Ocak still meet with the other relatives of the disappeared people of Turkey, every Saturday in Galatasaray.
