Ecology Forum released its final statement

Mesopotamia Social Forum (MSF) released its final declaration after the ecology forum held in Diyarbakir on 29-30th January.

Individuals, groups and institutions against power-oriented neoliberal system joined the forum from different parts of the world.

In the final declaration the Forum stressed some points to be brought about in the next months. These points are as follow: social resistance needs to be organized for prohibition of chemical weapons and mines that cause enormous destruction on ecosystem. The mined terrains along the Turkey borders should be cleaned up and handed over to peasants living there; the struggle against GMO products must began from our houses; as a consequence of increasing food prices, decreasing of production quality and generally difficult life conditions, it is suggested that the people convert the disused areas to vegetable gardens collectively; today's technology imposes the idea of 'get bigger or die' with a fully capitalist logic. The technological projects that are at peace with nature should be carried into effect for people to live at peace with nature; it is required to increase the awareness-raising works within the society for popularizing the usage of renewable energy resources; evaluate the topographic structure properly for creating sustainable cities and decrease energy consumption via designing structures by considering climate data.

The forum final document also stressed the fact that the exploitation of underground and overland resources of Middle East should be stopped. Likewise the Forum stressed the need to build actions against dams which are used also to destroy the people living in the areas where dams are planned.

The forum also pointed out that the Palestinians, living under the occupation of Israel, are the people who mostly exposed to the water trouble. All the living possibilities of these people are abolished by restricting their access to water. Israel, asked the forum, should put an end to its occupation and ecological destruction on Palestine lands.

Language is an organic phenomenon in respect of being a communication instrument. Language and nature are a whole and there should be a struggle against all the obstacles set up against this whole.
