Dismissed workers for wanting to join union stormed CHP building

The workers of a facatory belonging to a CHP (Republican People’s Party) alderman in Mersin, who were dismissed for wanting to join the union, occupied CHP Mersin provincial building.

Over 100 workers went to CHP provincial building in Mersin in early hours and occupied the building, saying that the CHP provincial government rejected their demand for an appointment and didn’t become concerned in their problems. Workers took the tea maker out of the building and locked the door from inside. Hanging banners concerning their situation on the building windows, workers chanted slogans.

The workers refused to meet CHP Provincial Head Yýlmaz Þanlý and Provincial Chief Police who came to the building and said that they will continue their act unless they reach an agreement with the union representative and the company owner.

DISMISSED FOR BEING UNION MEMBERS

The workers, who have been on strike for some time, were dismissed from Akdeniz Wire Nail Factory of CHP Yeniþehir Alderman Serhat Dövenci a month ago. Workers said that they were dismissed from the company of a CHP member, who takes pride in defending union rights, for wanting to be union members. Asking for an appointment from Mersin CHP provincial management to discuss about the problem, workers stated that CHP management doesn’t even lend itself to speak to them.

THE FACTORY ACCOUNTS ARE ALSO KEPT BY CHP PROVINCIAL CHAIR

The refusal of CHP provincial management to meet the dismissed workers must be resulting from the facts that the company owner is a member of CHP and the accounts of the fabric are kept by CHP Provincial Head Yýlmaz Þanlý.

While workers are continuing their invasion act in the building, CHP provincial and central management are still keeping silent.
