Today in Denmark opens the case against RojTV. Severa associations, groups and cultural figures have in these weeks shown their solidarity with the Kurdish satellite television.
Among these are Nobel Literature Prize, Dario Fo and actress and well know theatre director Franca Rame. In their message Fo and Rame writes that "RojTV, the satellite Kurdish television which has been broadcasting since 2004. In all these years RojTV has given the Kurdish people a voice."
The two well known artists also add that "to close RojTV will hit hard the difficult peace process the BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) - which has 20 deputies in the Turkish parliament - has been trying to bring forward since several months."
They finally remark: "We wish to stress that in order to contribute to the creation of favourable conditions for dialogue the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) has announced the extension of its unilateral ceasefire which is being observed - except for short suspensions - since March 2009.
We believe that closing a newspaper, a television, a radio, is always a negative sign for freedom of the press and freedom of expression."
Today a Danish court will hear a case against the Kurdish satellite television Roj TV that is being accused of encouraging the activities of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
