Within the framework of the campaign for the use of Kurdish language, Silopi Municipality, after those of Cizre, Uludere and Beytüþþebap provinces of Þýrnak, has changed the signboards of unit rooms replacing the old with new written in Kurdish-Turkish.
The campaign launched for the use of Kurdish language in all areas of life is on increase in Sirnak. While many municipalities and shopkeepers write the labels in Kurdish, Silopi Municipality has changed the signboards in Turkish with the ones written in Kurdish-Turkish.
The ceremony of hanging the signboards of unit rooms written in Kurdish and Turkish both was participated by Mayor Emin Toðurlu, BDP Provincial Chairman Bahattin Alkýþ, Deputy Mayor Kadir Kunur, city councillors, BDP district administrators as well as hundreds of citizens wearing local dresses.
Holding a Kurdish speech in front of the municipal building, Mayor Toðurlu stated that the citizens in the province speak Kurdish in all Lebensraum, saying; “We will base on the 'bilingual life' for the use of Kurdish language in public institutions as well other than during daily life”.
If the language is scientifically defined as the mean of social communication, then local government services should also be based on science and socialization, said Toðurlu and continued as follows; “As the Municipality of Silopi, we want to offer a coherent service to our people in accordance with the 'the principle of propriety'. Kurdish has been used widely for years in Botan thanks to Kurdish mothers. We think that mothers have a big part in preventing the assimilation policy of the state, they have contributed great efforts and therefore it would be right to give our services in Kurdish language”.
Toðurlu said they will continue to use the Kurdish language in all areas of life, saying; "As Kurdish people, we will keep doing our part as local administrations to keep Kurdish language alive which is one of the reasons of our existence”. Toðurlu called everybody to speak Kurdish and to protect the Kurdish language.
