BDP: 2011 will be a year of peace

BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) celebrated the new year of everyone, particularly of Kurdish and Turkish peoples, stating that the year 2011 will inevitably be a year of peace and a solution.

In a message published on New Year's Eve, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Co-Chairs Selahattin Demirtaþ and Gültan Kýþanak stated that the year 2010 should be considered as year of gains for peoples as the struggle for democracy and peace has brought problems to a historical solution phase. The message was as follows; “Against policies intending to suppress public opposition, purge the dynamics of democracy and divide organized society, the peoples of Turkey didn’t take a step back, didn’t give up their demands for democracy and freedom, achieved to raise their voice in all fields and most importantly, revealed their will for living together in peace”.

It was expressed in the message that the appearance of a strong social will at the point of solving the Kurdish problem through democratic means and enabling an appropriate solution basis with this will are important developments that determine the political and social agenda of 2011 as well as the common struggle line with democracy performances.

Emphasizing that “The current situation shows that the year 2011 will inevitably be a year of peace and a solution”, the message continued as follows;

The yearning of Turkey’s people for an egalitarian and pluralist constitution will turn into reality in the new year. The year 2011 will be a year when our country, a garden of cultures against all kinds of impositions, will reflect its multi-lingual, multi-cultural, multi-identity structure on all Lebensraum with all its beauty and color”.
