Aerial footage from Al-Omar oil field held by SDF

ANF obtained aerial footage from Al-Omar, the largest oil field in Syria, that was captured by SDF on October 22.

ANF has obtained aerial footage from Syria’s largest oil field, Al-Omar, which was under ISIS control since 2014 and liberated by SDF in a special operation on October 22, 2017.

Al-Omar oil field in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor east of Syria, was producing 30 thousand barrels of oil per day before the civil war erupted in Syria in 2011.

Captured from the regime by Jabhat Al-Nusra and other forces identifying themselves as opposition in November of 2013, the oil field was then operated by these forces who produced high income by selling 10 thousand barrels of the daily production to the Baath regime, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other countries.

The region was captured by ISIS following the withdrawal of Jabhat Al-Nusra from battle in 2014’s April, becoming a primary source of income for ISIS gangs. Like Jabhat Al-Nusra, ISIS also sold a large amount of the oil taken out of this region to Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and some other countries in addition to the Baath regime.

Al-Omar was taken by SDF forces through a special operation as part of the Operation Cizire Storm on October 22. The field is not operated at the moment.

As the aerial footage obtained by ANF reveals, some areas of the oil field were destroyed by strikes of regime forces, and by airstrikes of Russia that takes sides with the Baath regime in the Syrian war in 2015’s September.

SDF officials told ANF that production and income of the Al-Omar oil field, which was controlled and operated by dominant and exploitive forces like the Baath regime, Jabhat Al-Nusra and ISIS before, will be offered to the service of Deir ez-Zor and Syria’s people following the total liberation of Deir ez-Zor territory and maintenance of the refineries.
