66 thousand signatures to keep Hasankeyf alive

Famous artists of Turkey have gathered for ancient town of Hasankeyf which will be submerged into water because of Ilisu Dam. The artists have also gave signatures to the “Let’s keep Hasankeyf alive” campaign of Nature Association. They also urged UNESCO to add Hasankeyf to the world heritage.

It is reported that the Hasankeyf Campaign has gathered 66 thousand and 810. The campaign run by a nature organisation in Turkey aims at stopping the Ilisu dam which will destroy ancient cave-town of Hasankeyf and declaring Tigris Valley as world heritage

The press release which was also signed by one of the most famous singers of Turkey Sezen Aksu stated that Hasankeyf has a history of 10-thousand years and it meets 9 of the 10 criteria of UNESCO to be declared as world heritage.

President of Nature Association Güven Eken also said that due to historical importance of Tigris Valley the support to the campaign is growing.
