TEV-EKO called the PKK congress a turning point and said the people’s self-defense struggle is entering a new phase.
In a written statement, the European Kurdistan Ecology Movement (TEV-EKO) said: "The 12th Congress of the PKK, which was held on 5-7 May 2025, and the statement issued afterwards represent a new turning point in the peoples' struggle for freedom and democracy. The decisions taken have a historical significance not only for the Kurdish people, but also for the common future of the Middle East and the peoples of the world. This determination is a declaration of a strong political will towards the construction of a democratic society and the perspective of democratic nation building. Today, the half-century-long struggle for the freedom and defence of a people is evolving into a new format and level.
We commemorate the values that have been created and the victims that have been put into these values with gratitude and with all our consciousness."
The statement continued: "The destruction of nature is a consequence of the inhuman character of capitalist modernity. The construction of the democratic nation is based on a democratic and libertarian model of society that is at peace with nature and based on local life. In this context, the struggle for ecology is not only an environmental issue, but also the basis for social freedom and democratization.
As TEV-EKO, we embrace this historical will of the Kurdish freedom movement. At the same time, considering the transnational nature of ecological destruction, we emphasize once again that international solidarity is essential in this struggle. The unlimited effects of the ecological crisis require us to assume a common responsibility as humanity. Therefore, we call on all progressive environmental movements, ecological organisations and relevant international institutions to recognise this historical will and to be part of the solution."
The statement added: "The paradigm of the democratic nation encompasses not only the free survival of identities and cultures, but also the protection of ecosystems, the restoration of ecological balance and a social life in harmony with nature. With this awareness, we see the period we are in as not only a political but also an ethical-ecological transformation process. It is our duty to increase the common struggle of the peoples against the ecological destruction created by capitalist modernity and to accelerate the construction of a democratic ecological society.
On this occasion, we call on all the peoples of the world, especially the people of Kurdistan, to meet and stand in solidarity in the struggle for a democratic society and ecological life.
Let's raise the struggle on the basis of the Democratic Ecological Society ad with the slogan of Freedom!"
