Third edition of Kurdish Film Festival starts tomorrow, 1 December

The third edition of the Paris Kurdish Film Festival kicks off tomorrow. The films will be shown in Salles at the Cinema Le Denfert. The program offers 24 films including long, short and documentaries. The artistic director of the festival, Ali Gül Dönmez writes in the introduction to the festival brochure that "making films in the physical and psychological environment of the Kurdish people is to walk on the political lines of the Kurdish people, trace the acts of resistance against military oppression against the cultural policy of assimilation of States which dominate the Kurdish people. In political terms, language, memory and history become instruments of oppression and neglect, yet among Kurdish filmmakers, they are transformed into an instrument of "resistance" and "existence" on the aesthetic and cinematographic map."

Dönmez underlines that "the Kurdish filmmaker, as his people, is constantly in search of freedom in order not to achieve "a just image but just an image" of its existence as expressed by another tireless explorer of freedom: Jean Luc Godard."

The program of the third edition of the festival presents films interacting with the policy reflecting the current cultural situation of the Kurdish people.

The festival will also host this year the film Grass: A Nation Battle for Life by Merian Cooper, Schoedsack Ernest B, and Harrison Marguerite.

The opening film will be Min Dit by Miraz Bezar which tells the story (written by late Kurdish writer and journalist Evrim Alatas) of the children of Diyarbakir facing the political repression in their city. There will be a rich section of documentaries, among them: Eylül Çocuklarý (The Children of September) telling the stories of 5 youngsters living in 4 different European cities after their families were forced to flee from the 12 September 1980 military coup. Also in the doc section, Demsala Dawi: Sewaxan (The last season: Shawaks) the beautiful film directed by acclaimed director Kazim Oz. Tra i lunghi, il lavoro di Seren Gel, Dema Tuya, The times of the walls.
