Rojava experience lands to Terra Madre

Terra Madre will bring 5,000 delegates from 160 countries, over 800 exhibitors, 300 Slow Food Presidia and 500 food communities from the Terra Madre network to Turin (Piedmont, Italy).
Terra Madre Salone del Gusto is an international gastronomy exhibition that takes places every two years in Turin.
Organized by Slow Food, the Region of Piedmont and the City of Turin, the event brings together food producers and artisans from across the world.
This year Rojava and its unique model of self-run community cooperatives will also be present.

Terra Madre is a worldwide event dedicated to Earth, sustainable economy, community projects around the world.
The Rojava experience will be presented on Sunday 23 September from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm in the Blue Room.
The event, titled, "Food as response to crisis" will focus on how, following a war, or even during political or economic crises, human beings often look to food and the land in order to rebuild their identity and lay foundations for a new future.
From gardens in Kobane, Syria, to the recovery of local seeds in Palestine, this forum will present examples of rural communities that have resisted and begun anew, even in the most critical situations.
The speakers:
Ozlem Tanrikulu, Ecologist, feminist, president Information Office of Kurdistan in Italy(UIKI) and of the Committee for reconstruction of Kobane in Europe, helped in founding 10 gardens and Slow Food Convivia in Kobane (Rojava, North Syria).
Raya Ziada, Researcher, educator, activist, Agri-Culture and community awareness towards the concept of “land”.
Olga Evelyn Domené-Painenao, Researcher, agroecologist, Specialist of reconstructing local food systems in areas of crisis.
Antony Morano and Leila Alami, The Recipe Hunters. They “travel around the world in search of traditional recipes and the stories behind the people who maintain their culinary heritage”.
Baoudoin Mupwala Pa Nzenga, Researcher, Expert of sustainable fishing in Tanganiyka, Promoter of Peace Gardens in Kobalo in the RDC.
The event will be chaired by Mastrojeni Grammenos, Coordinator for the Environment in Development Cooperation and Head of the Science-Policy Interface, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
