The Rojava Film Commune is presenting the premiere of the documentary "Jinwar" in Qamishlo on Monday. The forty-minute film portrays life in Jinwar, the only ecologically managed women's village in the world. The film was directed by Nadya Derwîş, with German filmmaker Antonia Kilian working as camerawoman. The Rojava Film Commune accompanied the work as producer.

The documentary was shown for the first time as part of this year's celebrations for International Women's Day on 8 March in North and East Syria. However, the screening was intended exclusively for the female inhabitants of Jinwar. In Germany, the film was recently shown at the 1st Kurdish Film Festival Düsseldorf. The official Rojava premiere of "Jinwar" will now take place on Monday afternoon in the presence of the director and the film team at the Mihemed Şêxo Centre for Art and Culture.

The village of Jinwar was built near the town of Dirbêsiyê in north-east Syria. Planning for the project began in 2016 and the opening took place on 25 November 2018, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Jinwar is home to women from various backgrounds, including Yazidis, Christians, Muslims, Kurds, Syriacs and Arabs, as well as women from all over the world.

In a war-torn country, the inhabitants of Jinwar aim to create an alternative, peaceful place for women where they can live together free from violence. The village was founded on the principle of self-sufficiency to give women the opportunity to provide for their own basic needs. Built by women for women, the village aims to provide a home for women of all cultures and religions and their children.
