Poetry Festival kicks off in Qamishlo

The 25th poetry festival organized by the Syrian Kurdish Poetry Festival Committee began today at Qamishlo Qelaa Library.

The 25th poetry festival organized by the Syrian Kurdish Poetry Festival Committee (MHKS) began today at Qamishlo Qelaa Library. The festival will be joined by civil society organizations, poets, literary and political party representatives.

the festival opened with a minute's silence after which Syrian Kurdish Poetry Festival committee member Welat Şêro made the opening speech.

A video including the works carried out by the Syrian Kurdish Poetry Festival Committee since 1993 was shown.

52 poems will be read in the festival which will only last one day. 17 of the 52 poems will actually be read online due to the coronavirus pandemic which prevented some of the guests from joining the festival in person.

Syrian Kurdish Poetry Festival Committee Member Jinda Mihemmed said in her speech that prizes will be awarded to poets and writers at the end of the festival.
