The Martyr Yekta Herekol Theater Festival ended with an awards ceremony.
The 6th Martyr Yekta Herekol Theater Festival started on 27 March with the slogan ‘Theater is the mosaic of the peoples’. The festival ended with an awards ceremony on Sunday. Hundreds of citizens, artists, representatives of women's movements and civil society organizations in Northern and Eastern Syria attended the festival.
Sumeye Mihemed, co-chair of the North and East Syria Mesopotamia Democratic Culture and Art Movement, stated that they dedicate the festival to Leader Abdullah Öcalan and the martyrs of the culture and art movement.
Sumeye Mihemed said: “After 4 months of preparations, our festival is coming to an end. We are particularly happy that a Rojhilat Kurdistan theater group participated.”
The organizers drew attention to the large participation of women in the festival and underlined the importance for young people to write their own plays rather than translate foreign works. Based on this, the evaluation committee decided that the next festival will be held in two parts and at different times, so that all groups can participate.
Awards were given at the end of the festival.
