Due to the worldwide corona pandemic, the Istanbul-based Institute for Kurdish Studies (formerly Kurdish Institute) had to close. To stay in contact with the students, it now offers its courses online.

The association is dedicated to science and research in the field of Kurdish language and culture as well as educational tasks and offers language courses in the Kurdish dialects Kurmancî, Soranî and Kirmanckî. Since the institution had to close down two weeks ago, the courses have switched to digital channels. The language lessons for the 200 students are held via Skype.

The Institute for Kurdish Studies was founded in April 1992 as Enstîtuya Kurdî ya Stenbolê by a circle of intellectuals such as Musa Anter, Feqî Huseyn Sagniç and Cemşid Bender. On 31 December 2016 it was closed by an emergency decree. It was refounded in March 2017 under the name Komeleya Lêkolînên Kurdî.
