The guerrilla group Koma Amara has released the music clip “Hêviyam” in memory of Hêvî Gabar who died in Berlin four years ago.

Koma Amara has released a new music clip in memory of Hêvî Gabar (Gülistan Aksoy). “Hêviyam” was composed by Pelşîn Munzûr, the lyrics are by Fırat Baran and Pelşîn Munzûr.

Hêvî Gabar was born on 25 January 1987 in Mardin (Mêrdîn) and joined the Kurdish liberation movement in 2002. She worked for a long time in youth and press work and later joined the guerrillas in the mountains. When ISIS attacked Rojava in 2014, she went to northern Syria. In the summer of 2014, she was injured in the leg in the fight against ISIS in Til Koçer. After medical treatment, she returned to the defense front.

In 2015, she stepped on a mine laid by ISIS in the area around Serêkaniyê (Ras al-Ain) and was seriously injured. In May 2017, she came to Germany for medical treatment and underwent several operations. In a weakened state, she died of an illness on July 26, 2020 in Berlin. She was buried in Mardin.

Koma Amara was founded in 2002 and is part of the women's cultural movement Kevana Zêrîn. The group's songs are written in various Kurdish dialects. Xwezan Harûn, a member of the band, explained that "Hêviyam" is intended to keep the memory of Hêvî Gabar alive: "Heval Hêvî was seriously injured in the war for Serêkaniyê in 2015. She went to Europe for medical treatment. She felt very foreign there, although she knew some people. Until the very end, she longed to drink tea with her friends in the mountains of Kurdistan and continue her fight. She died in Europe with this longing. It is very difficult for me to talk about it, because she died far too early. She was very seriously injured, but she still hoped to return to the mountains one day. That never happened. We remember Heval Hêvî and all the other fallen soldiers with great respect. Our song is a gift to Heval Hêvî, to all the friends who gave their lives and who continue to fight, and to our people."
