Jury at Venice Film Festival to be headed by Fatih Akin

The members of the jury have been decided for the "Luigi De Laurentiis" Award for a Debut Film at the 67th Venice International Film Festival (September 1-11, 2010). As previously announced, the jury will be chaired by the German director of Turkish origin Fatih Akin, who took the Special Jury Prize at the 66th Venice Film Festival in 2009 with Soul Kitchen.

Alongside Fatih Akin the members of the "Luigi De Laurentiis" Award for a Debut Film Jury will be: director Stanley Kwan, one of the leading exponents of the Hong Kong's Nouvelle Vague, in Competition at 2005 Venice with Everlasting Regret (Changhen ge); Israeli director Samuel Maoz, winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival last year with his first feature film Lebanon; actress Jasmine Trinca, one of the most acclaimed performers of Italian cinema, recognised last year in Venice with the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor or Actress for The Big Dream (Il grande sogno); and the Indian Nina Lath Gupta, at the heart of all the new types of production and distribution in independent cinema.

The 67th Venice International Film Festival (September 1-11, 2010) is directed by Marco Mueller, and organized by la Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta.

The International Jury for the "Luigi de Laurentiis" Venice Award for a Debut Film will choose among all the debut feature films in the various competitive sections of the Festival (Official Selection and independent, parallel sections). The winner will receive the Lion of the Future - "Luigi de Laurentiis" Venice Award for a Debut Film, along with $100,000 donated by Filmauro Aurelio and Luigi De Laurentiis, to be shared equally between the director and producer (no ex aequo awards permitted).

In recent years this award has been presented to: Le grand voyage by Ismael Ferroukhi (2004), 13 - Tzameti by Gela Babluani (2005), Khadak by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth (2006), La zona by Rodrigo Plá (2007), Mid-August Lunch (Pranzo di Ferragosto) by Gianni Di Gregorio (2008) and Clash (Engkwentro) by Pepe Diokno (2009).
