Hozan Seyidxan releases song about Qandil

Qandil is both a symbol of resistance and honor and a center of national unity for the Kurdish people, says Kurdish artist Hozan Seyitxan who wrote a song on the Kurdish stronghold.

Hozan Seyitxan has released a song about Qandil, saying, "We should take good care of Qandil in order for the freedom flag to flap continuously."

Seyitxan stated the following regarding the song: “The song of Qandil is of great importance to me. First of all, this mountain connects Kurdistan. It is a region famous for its nature and riches. The Peshmerga fought against the Saddam regime in these mountains in the 1980s. Qandil is a place where Kurdish values have been defended for the last 40 years. Under the leadership of the PKK, Kurdish guerrillas made Qandil a free space. They turned this place into a center of science and culture.

Thousands of Kurdish fighters from 4 parts of Kurdistan have learned their history, art and politics in these mountains. Therefore, Qandil became an area that protected the honor and culture of the Kurds and hosted thousands of Kurdish youths. That's why Qandil has a great meaning to me. Hevals (comrades in Kurdish) like Karasungur, Sefqan, Helmed and thousands of Kurdish fighters sacrificed their lives and created a meaningful life in these mountains. I wanted to pay tribute to the soul of the martyrs with this song.

Many friends supported the preparation of this song. First of all, female friends in Rojava Caziya, Sumeye, Nesrîn and Rozerîn participated both as soloists and vocals. I thank them very much. I would like to thank our other artist friends Hozan Aydin, Bülent Turan and Coman Resîd for their support. Our friends Memo Gul and Mazlum Rewşen, who contributed and arranged musical instruments, also made great efforts. I thank them too.

With this song, I wanted to make it clear that Qandil is both a symbol of resistance and honor and a center of national unity for the Kurdish people. For this reason, we should take good care of Qandil in order for the freedom flag to flap continuously. On this occasion, I once again remember our martyrs with respect and dedicate this song to our martyred fighters and these mountains."
