A number of documentaries were screened at the 1st Düsseldorf Kurdish Film Festival together with short fiction and feature films.
The 1st Düsseldorf Kurdish Film Festival will close today. This first edition left a great impression on the audience as well as on the directors who attended it.
Writer Sırrı Ayhan, who has been living in Düsseldorf for 30 years, said about the festival: "I have been living in Düsseldorf for 30 years. This is the first time that such an important festival worthy of our people has been held in Düsseldorf. The people of Düsseldorf witnessed what universal works the Kurds have produced. We were known for the marches and rallies we held in Düsseldorf. But what has been happening here since Thursday is a matter of pride for the Kurds."
Writer Kakşar Oremar, who has been living in Düsseldorf for 25 years, said: "Our feature films and very important documentaries were screened. The audience was not just Kurds. Germans, Africans and people from other immigrant communities who wanted to get to know the Kurds living in this city also came to watch the films. I attach great importance to the fact that we introduce ourselves to very important works."
Sevinaz Evdike is the director of the movie Berbû. She was born in Serekaniye and her film will be closing the festival just before the awards ceremony.
Sevinaz Evdike said: "The praise we are receiving is given primarily to our martyrs. We are trying to reflect the values created by our martyrs who sacrificed their lives while carrying out cultural and artistic works. I am very pleased and touched that these works, created under war conditions and during the struggle, have been so warmly welcomed by the audience."
