Diyarbakir Doc Days to run from 12 to 15 May

Diyarbakir Documentary Days, planned for April 18 to 24 by Cegerxwin Youth Culture and Arts Center of Kayapýnar Municipality but postponed due to intensified tension in the city following the veto decision of the Turkish Supreme Election Board (YSK) on the candidates of the Labor, Freedom and Democracy Block, will take place between May 12-15.

Kayapýnar Deputy Mayor Mahmut Dag, remarking that Diyarbakýr will host the Documentary Days following the preparations for three months, said the followings;“Because of the intense protest activities held in our city due to YSK’s ban decision against Kurdish politicians, we had to postpone the activity due to the atmosphere of the city when Halil Ibrahim Oruc lost his life during protest activities. The activity will meet the public on 12-15 May.”

Noting that documentary films reveal the social issues and enable the confrontation with the social events in the past, Dag continued as follows; “We regard the documentary films as a memory refreshing which carries the pains of the past to today”.

During the activity which has been prepared for three months, 40 films will be displayed for four days at three separate houses of Cegerxwin Culture and Art Center.

The first three films to be selected by a committee consisting of Yeþim Ustaoglu, Ahmet Soner, Hicri Izgören, Thomas Balkenhol and Ozkan Kücük will be rewarded 2 thousand 500 TL and a special award will be given on behalf of Cegerxwîn to a film to be determined.

Diyarbakir Documentary Days (fîlmamed) will end with the award ceremony and closing activity on 15 May 2011.
