Dersim does not have a proper cinema house despite its tradition in rising dozens of cinema wooers, directors and writers. Still Dersim has organised a film festival. Unique in respect to the organization, Dersim Human Rights Film Festival will take place from May 20 to 29.

The human rights film festival, organized for the first time by initiative of cinema workers, is preparing to bring together a large number of films and cinema people from the world cinema.

OPENED TO THE WORLD

Dersim Human Rights Film Festival is also bringing something new to Turkey and Dersim. An international-orientated organization exploring the theme of “human rights”, the festival aims to bring the art of cinema forward with its film selection. In other words; this festival is opening the doors of Dersim to the World through the eye of cinema.

Dersim has come to the fore because of the human rights violations and massacres it suffered itself both past and present and with this festival the city will host the stories of violation from the the world. This year’s festival will be held in a city where cinema films, filmmakers, actors and directors from Turkey, Asia, Europe, and Middle East will be included within the organization. The festival, held in a city without a proper cinema house, aims to show and underline the longing for movies with three projection rooms and halls at its disposal.

VIOLATIONS TO BE REMARKED

The programme, which intends to call out to the neighboring provinces as well, includes 15 feature-length movies from Turkey and world cinema shot in 2010 and 2011.

The documentary section aims to offer the audience premiere films, international documentaries from both well known and young directors will be screened.

There is a section called "Nature's children" which explores nature from the point of view of its 'children' often violating and wounding the beauties of earth.

The section called "Truth Seekers" touches upon different realities and human rights violations in Turkey and the world.

The section called “From Us” shows the priorities of Dersim’s filmmakers while the section called “In Memory of” will pay tribute to journalist Hrant Dink (murdered in Istanbul in 1999), musicians Kazým Koyuncu and Ahmet Kaya (they both died of an illness).

The festival is not forgetting about children and indeed proposes a rich programme for kids. From animation movies by world wide known directors to local movies the festival will introduce children to the magic of cinema for five days.
