Culture and art workers in Amed support Öcalan's call

Culture and art workers made a statement at the Dicle Culture and Art Association in Amed supporting the call made by Abdullah Öcalan.

Many artists attended the press conference organized in response to the historic call made on 27 February by Abdullah Öcalan. The Kurdish version of the statement was read by theater actor Ömer Şahin, while the Turkish version was read by painter Neşe Toprak.

Culture and art workers supported the statement by the Kurdish people’s leader and said: "We are artists who create works that ease the pain of peoples, nurture their hopes, and make their demands for freedom visible."

The statement continued: "We support Mr. Abdullah Öcalan’s call for peace and a democratic society. The government must approach this call with the same sensitivity that Mr. Öcalan has demonstrated towards peace. As one of the key interlocutors of this call, we remind the state of its fundamental responsibility. We value the legal and political framework that Mr. Öcalan has highlighted. As Kurdish artists, we can only freely practice our art, language, and culture within such a framework."

Calling for a serious approach to the solution presented by the Kurdish People’s leader, the artists said: "We are working for a free future where art and life flourish in peace, and we will continue our struggle until we build a democratic society."
