Churches and foundations in Raqqa handed over to the Christian Property Protection Department

The property, churches and foundations of Christian refugees in Raqqa were handed over to the Department for the Protection of Syriac, Assyrian, Chaldean and Armenian Property in Northern and Eastern Syria.

The Democratic Islamic Congress of Northern and Eastern Syria handed over the property, churches and foundations of Christian refugees in the Raqqa Canton to the Syriac, Assyrian, Chaldean and Armenian Property Protection Department in Northern and Eastern Syria.

The handover ceremony was held at the Church of Martyrs in Raqqa. The ceremony was attended by members of the Democratic Islamic Congress, Muslim, Syriac, Assyrian and Armenian clergy, Sîham Qeyro, Co-Chair of the Democratic Peoples’ Assembly of Northern and Eastern Syria, Ebdulselam Hemsork, Co-Chair of the Executive Council of Raqqa Canton, Heznî Somî, Head of the Syriac, Assyrian, Chaldean and Armenian Property Protection Department and many others.

Îbrahîm El Iwês, Co-Chair of the Faith Committee of Raqqa and Tabqa Canton, who read the official document at the ceremony, said: "We have fulfilled our religious duty. We have protected the churches and properties belonging to the Syriac, Assyrian and Armenian peoples so far, and today we are officially handing them over to the Department for the Protection of Christian Property, which is the representative of the peoples in the region."

The officially transferred properties are as follows:

"Meryam Ezra Orthodox Armenian Church number 554,

Catholic Church El Bishara number 145,

A property in the Salat El Hujaj area,

A cemetery in Til El Biha, number 207410."

In the second phase, the properties of Syriacs, Assyrians, Chaldeans and Armenians in Raqqa and Tabqa will be handed over in the next few months.

After the ceremony, the officials of the Department for the Protection of Syriac, Assyrian, Chaldean and Armenian Property in Northern and Eastern Syria visited the transferred places.
