Amed Municipality promotes 'Silent Cinema Days'

In a social life where verbal communication is valued and hierarchical, there is a large population that remains other, as deaf individuals in a silent world. Amed Municipality promotes 'Silent Cinema Days'.

Today in Amed, a special three-day event kicks off. The 'Silent Cinema Days' are organized by the Municipality in the context of a week of events for people with disabilities. Explaining the meaning of such an important initiative, co-mayor Serra Bucak said: "In a social life where verbal communication is valued and hierarchical, there is a large population that remains other, as deaf individuals in a silent world. This will be a very special screening of movies whose script, producers and actors are deaf." The first screening is today at Çand Amed Cinema Hall.

As well as the screenings (also on 5 and 6 May), other activities will take place. In particular, on 4 May, a tree-planting event will be held at the New Stadium under the slogan 'A New Life is Possible for the Disabled.'

The Directorate of Services for the Disabled and Elderly will distribute 3,000 brochures on 12 May, in the Yenişehir district's Ekinciler Avenue, the Ofis neighborhood, Dağkapı Square, Kayapınar district, and in front of Ceylan Shopping Mall, to present the services offered to citizens with disabilities.

Conferences and workshops

On 14 May, a Media Workshop will be held at the Çand Amed Culture and Congress Center. On 16 May, an open-air 'Earth Table' event will take place at Sümerpark Common Living Area.

Finally, on 17 May, the 'Conference on the Search for Peace and a Democratic Society for the Disabled' will be held at the Çand Amed Culture and Congress Center.
