Today marks the 10th anniversary of the genocidal attacks launched by ISIS against the Yazidis on 3 August 2014, called the 74th genocide suffered by the Yazidi community in their history. During the course of the onslaught, thousands of Yazidis were massacred, thousands of women were kidnapped, hundreds of thousands of people were forced to migrate from their lands. From the first day until the liberation of Shengal, HPG and YJA Star guerrillas and Rojava resistance forces YPG-YPJ defended Shengal and the Yazidi people and prevented greater massacres.

The music video "Şengal", sung by Hunermend Dilovan, tells the story of the genocide and the resistance against this mass slaughter. Ayhan Demir wrote the lyrics of the song.
