KCDK-E: The will of the Kurdish people won

Drawing attention to the local elections, KCDK-E said, "The policies of genocide collapsed, the will of the Kurdish people won."

The Congress of Democratic Societies of Kurdistan in Europe (KCDK-E) released a written statement about the 31 March local elections in Turkey and North Kurdistan, saying, "The genocide, persecution and war policies that lasted for more than 22 years collapsed. The Kurdish people both in Kurdistan and in the geography of Turkey played its role and revealed that it is the decisive power against the dictatorship."

The statement continued:

"Despite all the pressures and interventions before and on the election day, Kurdistan manifested its will in favour of the DEM Party. The AKP regime, which implemented schemes through military, police and transported voters in many provinces, did not work. The AKP-MHP fascist alliance, which gathered the labour and future of the people around itself through the parasitic capital, was defeated by the will of the Kurdish people. The people of Kurdistan and Turkey, whose future was stolen by misery, hunger, unemployment and poverty, said ‘Enough’ to this regime. The rebellion of the youth, children, the elderly, the poor, the women who were murdered, whose future was stolen, was reflected in the ballot boxes. The Kurdish enemy AKP-MHP, which swore to slaughter the Kurdish people and put all means of war into action for this purpose, has collapsed.

The 'Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, a Solution to the Kurdish Question' campaign, which started on 10 October 2023 and spread all over the world in waves, reached its peak with the 2024 Newroz. The campaign, which was spread by the people both in Kurdistan and Europe, became a will by integrating with millions.

The success of the 2024 local elections is directly linked to the popularised stage of the movement.

The Kurdish people, united around Reber Apo (Leader Öcalan) in this spirit and with this enthusiasm, have shown that they are a key power by expanding the victory in Kurdistan through the city alliance in the metropolises of Turkey. It has shown everyone, especially the CHP, that without this enormous power, no policy has a chance to move forward. The move to liberate Leader Öcalan has now become popular and millions of people shouted the slogans 'Bijî Serok Apo' and 'Jin Jiyan Azadî' in the squares on the night of 31 March.

In Istanbul, with a high Kurdish population density, the demands of the Kurdish people cannot be rejected and this power, which has changed the fate of major metropolises, has reminded that they cannot get anywhere in politics with the policy of denial. This performance is a turning point that should be read well in terms of political transformations that will have important effects in the future. This result has shown everyone that the policy of denial and annihilation will not lead anywhere.

The peoples of Turkey and Kurdistan united around the DEM Party will be an important position in carrying forward the struggle for democracy, the united struggle of the peoples against war and genocide.

As KCDK-E, we celebrate the victory of the Kurdish people despite the police and military pressure. We reiterate our belief that uniting around the democratic nation line against genocide and war will be a real solution for the DEM Party, its components and the peoples of Turkey.”
