Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ has sent a letter from prison to mark the 4th anniversary of the murder of Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez in Paris.
Yüksekdağ said the followings in her letter commemorating the three Kurdish women who were killed in the heart of French capital on January 9, 2013:
“We are in the 4th year of the Sakine, Fidan and Leyla's march to eternity. Women continue the march to freedom on the path opened by the three women.
'My whole life was a struggle' said Sakine, which also tells why they were chosen a target. These three carnations were revolutionary women that dedicated their lives to the freedom of women and the Kurdish people. Each one of them was a symbol of women's initiative and will in politics.
Those who murdered them with an international conspiracy yesterday are today imposing repression and cruelty on peoples, and dragging the country into an ever growing spiral of violence every passing day. Those who tried to intimidate Sakine Cansız with torture in prison yesterday are today holding the will of over 6 million people hostage and keeping it jailed.
Commemorating Sakines means resistance to us. Those who ordered and organized their murder will never achieve their goal. We will keep our three carnations alive in every breath we take, in every action we make, in every song we sing, in every victory sign we make and in every prison we are kept hostage.
I commemorate the heritage left by Sakine, Fidan and Leyla with tribute, love and longing."
