The peace committees operating in northern Syria, which are affiliated to women's councils, play an important role in resolving women's problems.
One of these is the Peace Committee under al-Jazrat Region Women’s Council in western Deir ez-Zor. Since its inception on January 15, 2015, the committee has become a center where solutions to women's problems are found.
Cases concerning women are referred to the Women's Center. Since its foundation, the five-member committee has been able to successfully complete a number of cases and create solutions that will satisfy both sides.
450 cases successfully completed
The problems are mainly inheritance issues, child marriages and problems within the family. Out of 600 cases, 450 have already been successfully completed.
Shehrezad al-Jazeim from the Women's Council, says, "The women of Deir ez-Zor face many difficulties in their daily lives." She reports that the Peace Committee is considered the most active body by the region's women.
Emine al-Hisen of the Peace Committee explains that their work is about developing positive solutions for both sides. Only if no solution is possible, the case is handed over to the public prosecutor.
