First Academy of Women's Self-Defense Forces opens in Amûdê

Emine Osê said that the opening of the academy was an important step in the history of women's struggle. "We stand for peace but at the same time, we are ready to defend our people against any threat."

The Women's Self-Defense Forces opened its first academy in Northern and Eastern Syria.

The academy was opened in Amûdê , province of Qamishlo with the aim of providing military and ideological training to women who voluntarily participate in self-defense forces.

The opening of the Academy was attended by a large crowd, among which were Emine Umer, co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD), Emine Osê, General Assembly of the Autonomous Administration Presidential Council member, representatives of the autonomous government of the Euphrates and Cizire regions, commanders of the Self-Defense Forces, SDF, YPG, YPJ, Internal Security Forces, representatives of Qamishlo and Amûdê civil society organizations, representatives of political parties and families of women participating in self-defense forces.

The ceremony started with a minute of silence, after which the fighters joining the Academy were sworn in.

Emine Osê said that the opening of the academy was an important step in the history of women's struggle. "We stand for peace but at the same time, we are ready to defend our people against any threat."

Co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) Emine Umer also celebrated the opening of the academy. Stating that women's gains were achieved after long struggles, Umer said: "Women in Northern and Eastern Syria achieved significant gains after their long struggle. The important gains of women today prove the effective strength of women and their role in the revolution. Women will continue to defend their achievements with all their components to build a free and equal society."

Nezir Gewriye, Co-President of the Executive Assembly of the Cizre Region, said that the opening of the academy was the result of women's struggle in the Northern and Eastern Syrian revolution. Gewriye underlined that women proved themselves with the revolution and added: “Women have now reached the power to defend themselves, their essence, their cause and their people."

A six-month training period will be carried out at the academy.
