Hundreds of women gathered in front of the United Nations (UN) building in Rojava’s Cizir canton to protest the isolation of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Led by Kongreya Star, hundreds of women met in front of the UN building in Qamishlo’s Korniş neighborhood and demanded an end to the Turkish state’s isolation of Öcalan. Women from Rojava also condemned the Turkish state’s attacks on Rojava and Syria.

In a written statement read out loud during the event, protestors described Turkey’s occupation of Jarablus as a strategic phase of the Turkish state’s enmity towards Kurds, and stated that Turkey and its affiliate gang groups were at war with Kurds and democracy forces in order to prevent the democratic political that has emerged in Northern Syria over the past 5 years model from taking root.

Women from Rojava warned that support for Turkey’s occupation would mean a crime, and criticized the UN and other international institutions for their silence on Turkey’s recent incursion. Protestors noted that the lack of prosecution against Turkey for its illegal occupation would implicate international organizations and powers related to Syria in the crime.

TURKISH STATE MUST BE PROSECUTED

Woman protestors emphasized that with its occupation of Jarablus, the Turkish state was aiming to destroy the democratic Northern Syria/Rojava model and prevent the union of Kurds, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Turkmens and Chechens. Protestors called upon the United Nations to take responsibility and force Turkey out of Syria or prosecute the Turkish State in international courts.

WE WOMEN ARE THE OWNERS OF DEMOCRACY ıN SYRIA

The protestors pointed out that as women, they led the revolution in Rojava, defeated ISIS several times, and see the Turkish state’s occupation of Jarablus as a threat against themselves. The women joining the demo described themselves as the owners of democracy in Syria and emphasized that the Turkish state was targeting the hope of freedom of all women across the world.

ÖCALAN CAN BRING LASTING PEACE TO TURKEY

Protestors stated that enmity towards Kurds was at the center of Turkey’s policies because the Turkish state views Kurds as the main obstacle on the way of its neo-Ottoman ambitions, and described Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan as the only actor that can end Turkey’s aforementioned enmity and bring lasting peace to the country. Lastly, the protestors called upon the UN to immediately end the unlawfulness against Öcalan and ensure his freedom in order to create the grounds for peace in the region.
