Women's organizations from Northern and Eastern Syria presented their program for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The November 25 program begins today and includes events until December 10. The central motto is "No to genocide and occupation, let us protect women and life together".
Rihan Loqo from the women's association Kongreya Star, Xedice Zahir from the Future Party of Syria and Sofiya Yusif from the Syriac Women's Association spoke in Kurdish, Arabic and Syriac about the details of the program at a press conference in the Reading Park in Qamishlo.
The joint declaration of the women's organizations in the autonomous regions of northern and eastern Syria referred to the achievements of the women's revolution and called for a worldwide common struggle to build women's federalism. In the beginning, the courageous women who died in the liberation struggle were remembered.
The program includes seminars throughout the autonomous regions on the different forms of violence and the struggle against it. On November 18th there will be an event of the PYD Women's Council on violence against women. One day later the Women's Council of Syria invites men and women to a discussion event. On November 22, the Association of Young Women will hold a workshop on the topic of "Marriage in Childhood". The Women's Coordination of the Autonomous Administration will hold an event to inform about the system of gender parity and dual leadership and the participation of women in political decision-making. Further events on the topic are planned by Kongreya Star, the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD), TEV-DEM, the Syriac Women's Association and the Future Party of Syria.
In the Washokani Camp a discussion meeting will take place on racism and violence against women. In Hol Camp a seminar on violence of the will be organised.
Also the increasing violence against women in the time of the pandemic will be brought up for discussion in the program, in addition statistics will be published. Demonstrations will take place on November 25th. In Kobanê, men will hold their own demonstration in support of the women's struggle.
Separate activities are planned for children in Kobanê and Serêkaniyê Camp. The program also includes cultural activities such as exhibitions, films and theater. The closing is dedicated to the martyrs: Trees are to be planted in their memory on December 10.
