A rally will be held in Diyarbakır (Amed) on Saturday, 8 March at 11:00 AM in Istasyon Square under the slogan 'We revolt against femicide and march toward freedom' to commemorate International Working Women’s Day.
Necla Korkmaz, Chair of the Rally Organizing Committee, spoke to ANF about the preparations for the March 8 rally and said: "We launched our preparations on February 10. We have been working on this for nearly a month, organizing various events and activities across many areas. As 8 March approaches, our excitement grows. In the Kurdish women's struggle, 8 March holds a deeply significant place."
We will be in the streets for our demands
Korkmaz stated that they would take to the streets to defend women’s rights, which have been denied and ignored, and said: "As you know, our struggle against all forms of violence and discrimination against women has been ongoing for years. We will raise our voices in the streets for our demands. Women are the most affected by worsening social poverty. The increasing poverty and its disproportionate impact on women are among our key concerns. We will also voice our stance against every political policy and practice that fuels social decay. In particular, we will raise our voices against gender-based violence and femicide, expressing our rebellion in the streets. As women, these are our fundamental demands and agenda items this year. This is why we shaped our slogan around these issues. Women have always been among the main targets of war. Today, women's poverty is at its peak. As a result, this has exacerbated social problems, making the need for a societal solution more urgent than ever."
We invite all women to the streets
Korkmaz urged all women to attend the rally that will take place on Saturday, March 8, in İstasyon Square. She said: "We want all women to join us in this march for freedom, bringing their voices and colors to the streets. Together, we will raise our voices. Women will take to the streets to demand freedom. Women must be there to declare: We exist!’ We believe that, as women, we have the power to bring both renewal and peace."
