Union of Kurdish Women founded in Switzerland

Switzerland’s Kurdish Women’s Movement declared the founding of the Switzerland Union of Kurdish Women that will be the umbrella organisation for their activities in the 1st Assembly held in Grenchen in Switzerland’s Solothurn Canton.
200 women, mostly delegation, attended the assembly that started with a minute’s silence and council elections.
Kurdish politician Şükran Sincar made the first speech and emphasized the importance of the founding of Switzerland Kurdish Women’s Union. Calling attention to the accomplishments of Kurdish women in the international arena, Sincar mentioned the isolation of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan, saying; “The isolation imposed on Öcalan’s person is an isolation for whole communities, primarily on women, and their futures. Kurdish women know very well what the isolation on their leader means and are fighting to break this isolation.”
After Sincan, letters from KJK and Union of Socialist Women were read. Later in the assembly, the Switzerland Kurdish Women’s Union charter was read and discussions held on the topics. After the charter was approved, 7 women were elected to the administrative board and 3 women were elected to the auditing board.
The assembly ended with halay dancing and slogans after the elections.
