The Free Women's Movement (TJA) is launching a solidarity campaign on social networks for Kurdish women politicians Sebahat Tuncel and Gültan Kışanak, who are facing retrial.
Democratic Regions Party (DBP) former term co-chair Sebahat Tuncel and Amed Metropolitan Municipality (DBB) former co-mayor Gültan Kışanak are going to be retried.
The first hearings for both women politicians will be held today at Malatya 1st Criminal Court.
TJA called on activists to be ready for a tweetstorm at 10 am (Turkey time) when the hearing will begin. The hastag to be used is #GültanVeSebahataÖzgürlük (#FreedomforGültanandSebahat).
TJA said in a written statement: "Sebahat Tuncel and Gültan Kışanak have been detained for more than 4 years. On Monday at Malatya Courthouse we will defend the equality and freedom against the male judiciary. The twitterstorm we are launching is against the attitude of the patriarchal dominant mentality towards women and peoples."
The penalties against Kışanak and Tuncel were reversed on July 19, 2019 at the 18th Criminal Chamber of the Antep District Court of Justice, upon the objection of their lawyers.
