The Yazidi Women's Freedom Movement (TAJE) organized an event in the district of Sinune in Shengal on 8 March, International Women's Day.
The women marched through Sinune road wearing local traditional dresses, chanting the slogan ‘Jin Jiyan Azadi’ [Woman, Life, Freedom].
The event area had been decorated with photos of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, hunger striker Leyla Güven, Kurdistan Freedom Struggle commander who fell martyr Binevş Agal, flags of TAJE.
After a minute of silence for the martyrs, the writings of Abdullah Öcalan on 8 March and women’s liberation struggle were read.
The event continued with songs performed by Yazidi music group.
Later the co-president of the Shengal Democratic Autonomy Council, Riham Hiko, talked about the meaning and importance of 8 March: “Today, we commend Leyla Güven and Nasır Yağız and all the hunger strikers on 8 March. DAESH was defeated thanks to the leadership of YPG and YPJ, Yazidi women were vindicated.”
