"Women should play their historic roles more actively," said PAJK Coordination Member Şimal Ülkem, commenting on 8 March, International Women's Day.
Kurdistan Free Women's Party (PAJK) Coordination Member Şimal Ülkem spoke about the fire in Imralı Prison, where Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan is held hostage and 8 March, International Women's Day.
Stating that even a bird does not fly in Imralı without the knowledge of the Turkish state, Ülkem said: "For this reason, this situation should be perceived as a new operation. The Kurdish people and especially women should step up their actions."
Ülkem said: "A new situation has emerged in Imralı. As PAJK, we condemn the attack on our leader. This attack in Imrali will not go unanswered. Our people and Kurdistan women who resist will further increase their actions. The people of Kurdistan have taken the necessary attitude."
Ülkem stated that they did not consider the fire in Imralı as an ordinary situation and evaluated it as a new provocation. She emphasized that the island of Imralı is a military area and that its 'security' was guaranteed by a special team.
The struggle of women is resistance and freedom
Celebrating the 8 March, International Women's Day, Ülkem said that the preparations should be at a high level. "The struggle of women is a struggle for their existence, resistance and freedom. Under the leadership of organized Kurdish women, the struggle for women's existence must be enhanced. The meaning of 8 March is struggle and resistance."
Ülkem ended her remarks by saying that Kurdish and Turkish women struggle in each area against fascist Erdogan. "Women should take a common stand against the attack, abuse, rape and extortion policy of the Turkish state. Women should play their historic role more actively. They should see their freedom and the freedom of Leader Apo as one thing."
