Komalên Jinen Ciwan Coordination has issued a statement condemning the brutal murder of 20-year-old university student Özgecan Aslan in the southern province of Mersin two days ago.

Offering condolence to the Aslan family, Komalên Jinen Ciwan Coordination held the Turkish government and state responsible for the murder, stressing that all those responsible for the incident will be be brought to book.

Stressing that the murderers of women are encouraged by the state, the statement continued: “Within the borders of a gendered state where dozens of women suffer from sexual abuse, rape and death every day, these scenes have already become normal and reached a level of not being taken by surprise. So much so that the gendered ministers of the AKP government are arguing that the perpetrators are seduced by the  women they murder. The mindset that murdered Kader Ortakaya is the very same of the one that killed Özgecan.”
