In Toronto, Canada Sara Free Women’s Commune and the Kurdish Democratic Community Centre organised a memorial to pay tribute to PKK founding member Sakine Cansız, KNK Paris Representative Fidan Doğan and Kurdish Youth Movement member Leyla Şaylemez who were murdered in Paris on 9 January 2013, and Sêvê Demir, Fatma Uyar and Pakize Nayır, who were murdered by Turkish state forces in Silopi, Şırnak in 2016.
Speaking at the event held at the Kurdish Democratic Community Centre, Gülnaz Yön on behalf of Sara Free Women’s Commune vowed to reclaim the struggle of the martyrs and follow in their footsteps.
A representative of the Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe also addressed the crowd via phone.
The event was concluded with a cinevision screening in memory of the martyrs.
