The Chamber of Deputies of Mexico ruled to increase the maximum penalties of years in prison for femicide after the murder of a 7-year-old girl, whose body was found in a plastic bag in the capital.

The reformed law was approved with 415 votes in favor and one against. With this measure, the minimum penalty for those who commit feminicide in Mexico went from 40 to 45 years. 

Likewise, the deputies approved an economic sanction of between 1,000 and 1,500 days of minimum wage, which is equivalent to 123,220 to 184,830 pesos ($9,942 the greater amount). 

Furthermore, the Mexican Chamber of Deputies will impose a penalty of 10 to 18 years in jail against those who commit sexual abuse of a minor. 

The approved prison sentence was sent to the Senate to be analyzed and voted for the new sentences to take effect.
