Kongra Star will hold a webinar titled "Women’s revolution is a guarantee of democratic and free society" on 21 February at 6pm GMT, (CET - 7pm).
The panel will discuss the Kurdish women’s revolutionary fight against ISIS from Kobane to Deir Al Zor as well as the wider women's revolution against the brutal patriarchal system.
Among the speakers are Arzi Hesen, a member of the YPJ command, Delsha Osman, from Kongra Star Europe and Sihan Mohammad, co-chair of the US mission of the Syrian Democratic Council.
The panel will engage with the Syrian Democratic Forces's recent humanitarian call on the UN to press for the repatriation of women and children who are related to ISIS members. The call also urged humanitarian aid for the rehabilitation of those currently held in detention centres in SDF-held regions. It is a matter of urgency to engage in international efforts to support the Autonomous Administration of North and Eastern Syria’s effort to establish an International court and to hold states accountable for the avoidance of obligations. The panel will furthermore discuss the Turkish state’s attacks against the resilient city of Kobane.
For the past 10 years, Kurdish women have been at the forefront of organizing a social revolution in Rojava and North and East Syria. Women lead in all areas of the struggle as an integral part of building a free community. A notable point in striving for equal participation within the construction of a democratic confederalist community is that women and men hold co-chairing positions in all spheres of public life. These areas of organisation span from communes, councils, academies, cooperatives, and committees. The diverse political, cultural, economic, and social achievements of women from different backgrounds are currently under attack from different fronts.
Kongra Star
Kongra Star is organised in Rojava, North and East Syria, as well as throughout wider Syria. Our role is to function as a confederation of organisations in Rojava based on a democratic and ecological paradigm for women's liberation. Revolutionary self-organization and self-defence are key to building a democratic society. Specifically, we envision a democratic nation model that stresses the importance of constructing an ecologically conscious community rather than state-building. Kongra Star has been a crucial organization in the works to access humanitarian agencies that primarily support women and children for their rehabilitation and justice procedures.
