KNK Women's Commission calls for united struggle against Turkish occupation

The KNK Women's Commission urged Kurds to strengthen their resistance, saying, "Kurds must believe in their strength and resist together.”

In a written statement in response to the attacks by the invading Turkish state, the Women's Commission of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) urged Kurds and women to stand up against attacks on Kurdistan in all spheres, saying, "Kurdish women should be the conscience and will of the Kurds in politics and deeds. Throughout history, we have seen what invaders have done to Kurdish women. We witnessed what happened to our Yazidi sisters in 2014."

The statement by KNK Women's Commission includes the following:

“The globe is in chaos as a result of the conflicts between NATO and Russia, and particularly the battles in the Middle East. The policies of the sovereigns in the NATO-Russia war exposed their true nature once more. While they support some who serve their interests, they remain silent in the face of those who do not. Those who oppose Russia's invasion of Ukraine stay silent in the face of the Turkish state's all-out war against Kurdistan. This is the reality of today's governments' hypocrisy and immorality policies.

To take advantage of the international political instability, the Turkish regime has increased its efforts to destroy the Kurds and Kurdistan. It wants to establish a new Ottoman Empire in Rojava and Southern Kurdistan. It aspires to resolve Turkey's political, social, economic, and diplomatic difficulties by invading Kurdistan. The freedom of the Kurds and Kurdistan is the major issue both within the occupying state itself and in its relations with other states. With its attacks against Kurds, the Turkish state consistently violates international law and commits war crimes on a systematic basis. The Turkish state's attack on Zap and Avaşin is intended to accomplish more than merely eliminate the PKK and destroy the Kurdish people's freedom struggle. For us Kurds, the current scenario is quite perilous.

In the face of this reality, Kurds must believe in their own strength and fight together. The Turkish state has now turned the entire Kurdistan into its battlefield. Despite the prohibition of chemical weapons and the need to take a stand against those who use them, no one has criticized or responded to the Turkish state's conduct in the international arena. Because the entire Kurdistan region, particularly South Kurdistan, is under attack by the Turkish state, we need to defend Kurdistan more than ever.

We, Kurdish women, must defend our existence, freedom, and accomplishments. We cannot repel the invading Turkish state's attacks unless we band together. Only through unity can we fight together. No Kurdish force in Kurdistan should serve the occupiers in order for this unity to be achieved. No Kurd should greet those who insist on cooperation, and these individuals should be segregated from society.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish president, is particularly antagonistic to Kurdish women. Today, Erdogan has become a symbol of the male-dominated system that is trying to undermine women's freedom struggles not only in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan, but throughout the Middle East.

Kurdish women are the most extreme and daring opponents of Erdogan's administration in Turkey today. Kurdish women are fighting the Turkish regime on the front lines. Kurdish women were recognized all over the world for their fight and became pioneers in the women's freedom movement. That is why Erdogan wants Kurdish women silenced. Seeking revenge against Kurdish women, he wreaks vengeance on our sisters in Afrin. The time has come to defend Kurdistan. If the world and regional powers realize the strength of Kurdish unity, then they will put an end to the Turkish state's war. No one will take the Kurds seriously as long as there are Kurdish forces attempting to whitewash the invaders.”
