The Kurdistan Women's Community (KJK) Coordination commemorated the martyrs of the genocide carried out by ISIS in Shengal on 3 August and urged all peoples and women to struggle for emancipation in a more powerful way.
The KJK Coordination said: “3 August 2014 marks the anniversary of the occupation and genocide carried out by ISIS against our Yazidi people in Shengal. On this occasion, we commemorate all our martyrs with great respect. 3 August also went down in history as a genocide targeting women in particular. 3 August is a date that should not be forgotten and should not be forgotten in terms of region and humanity. Thousands of Yazidis were massacred before the eyes of the world only because of their faith and identity. Thousands of Yazidi women were kidnapped by these mercenaries, sold in the markets, raped and murdered. The fate of thousands is still unknown.”
The statement added: “Those who left Shengal into the hands of the invading and rapist mercenaries at that time will not be forgotten. With the popular resistance carried out by guerrillas, Ezidxan-Shengal turned into a place of great struggle for a free Shengal today. Therefore, we condemn the invasion of Shengal by ISIS mercenaries and state that our belief and our claim for freedom of the Middle East under the leadership of women can only be achieved through a stronger organized struggle against colonial, invading and rapist mentalities.”
The statement recalled that “the feature of the 21st century is developing gradually along a woman axis. Let us bury these genocidal mentalities in the bin of history. We will win everywhere thanks to the organized struggle of women.”
The statement continued: “It has been established that the freedom of Leader Apo [Abdullah Ocalan] means freedom for all women, the Middle East and the peoples. The Imrali torture system must be destroyed. The biggest self-defense struggle is the resistance to destroy the Imrali torture, blackmail and threat system. Destroying the Imralı torture system means building free life. It would mean to liberate Ezidxan and Kurdistan. On the occasion of the anniversary of the Shengal massacre we call on the struggle for emancipation to grow and get stronger.”
